Adopting plants from Stuyvesant Cove Park

On August 29, 2021, we had adopted a carload of flowers and bushes from Stuyvesant Cove Park in lower Manhattan, and transplanted them to the Yellowstone LIRR Overpass garden. With Stuy Cove, directly adjacent to the East River, to be renovated next year for stormwater protection measures, the park is evacuating its plants - sharing them with scores of NYC community groups and gardens. We took snowberry and coralberry bushes, asters, Jacob's Ladder, heliopsis, trout lillies, and sea oat grass.  Queens Botanical Garden donated a large amount of compost, which we will spread around the entire garden area this fall as both a soil amendment and mulch.

Hard to see here, but lots of snowberry bushes and sea oat grass, both of which are shade tolerant. We'll see how they do...

The sea oat grass was highly recommended. Its seeds have a distinctive appearance.
